Software Engineer – San Francisco

Fragment is hiring Software Engineers in San Francisco to build the core platform behind its AI agents for enterprise procurement. The company came out of stealth in October 2026 with $56 million in funding, and its agents resolve purchase order and invoice exceptions inside the systems large manufacturers and distributors already run.

This is a foundational engineering role, not a feature team role, shaping the platform every agent and workflow will rely on.

What you will do

  • Design and own systems that do not exist yet, the foundational architecture for AI agents working over complex enterprise data.
  • Build a distributed agent pipeline that processes tens of millions of data points with deterministic, auditable and multi-tenant-safe behaviour.
  • Define and develop an automation editor that takes a visual-text hybrid approach to workflow design and adapts itself to each customer’s processes.
  • Engineer graph traversal and indexing systems that enable fast, lossless reasoning over Fragment’s unified data interface and arbitrary customer data systems.
  • Define the core framework for self-assembling agents that compose and execute workflows autonomously, safely, predictably and with full traceability.

You may be a fit if you

  • Have 3 to 7 or more years of experience and describe yourself as a high-slope generalist who gets restless when not building things that matter.
  • Learn unusually fast and thrive in ambiguity rather than waiting for a fully specified brief.
  • Think in systems, not tickets, and want to own architecture, product and customer impact together.
  • Ship high-quality work quickly and have seen high-quality production code across the stack.
  • Get excited by messy enterprise data and hard problems instead of clean, well-bounded tasks.
